What grants are available to Charitable Trusts in Scotland?

Introduction

Charitable Trusts exist solely to help others – yet with all their good intentions they could benefit from a little help themselves, on occasion. This is where business grants come in. There are plenty of different grants available to help Scottish businesses, but did you know you can also apply for several grants if you run a charitable organisation? Below are a few of the top grants available to Charitable Trusts in Scotland:

1. The Robertson Trust

Seeking to support ‘those seeking solutions to poverty and trauma’, the Robertson Trust offers a number of different grants you can apply for. Their focus is on charities with a focus on helping people facing poverty and trauma in Scotland, as well as charitable organisations currently earning under £2 million per year.

2. Screwfix Foundation

Well-known brand Screwfix established a foundation funding organisations and projects with a focus on repairing or improving buildings in Scotland. Their requirement is that any project helps people in need, and fixes facilities or homes used by people needing help.

3. Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust

Specific to registered charities within Aberdeen, the Lord Provost’s Trust operates independently from the city council. They offer financial grants to non-specific causes and charitable organisations, so long as these have a focus within the city of Aberdeen.

4. The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation

A popular grant available to charities in Scotland, The Gordon & Ena Baxter Foundation aids trusts based within Aberdeenshire, Moray, and the Highlands and Islands. They often offer up larger grants and have a broad range of eligible activities.

5. Energy Saving Trust – Energy Redress Scheme

Perhaps especially important this coming winter, this organisation offers grants to charitable organisations supporting people at risk of higher energy bills or cold homes in Scotland.

6. Help The Homeless

This grant aims at supporting Charitable Trusts which assist those facing homelessness in Scotland. They have a special focus on charities offering assistance to people so they may return to normal working lives, rather than only providing shelter or food.

7. The Pets at Home Foundation – Rescue Centre Grants

This organisation offers grants to charities supporting the rescue and re-homing of pets within Scotland. They do caveat that your charity must earn at least £50,000 per year to apply, however.

The above is not an exhaustive list – the best accountants in the business will be able to find you even more grants your charity can apply for, as well as help you with business loans or start-up loans, should those apply.
